Re-development to provide 22 new affordable homes
We are pleased to see plans underway to build 45 new quality homes (including 22 affordable homes) and accommodation for up to 5 people with autism in the Ward. The redevelopment of the Carter and Son Scrap Metal And Breakers Yard, on Aldershot Road, Worplesdon, was approved by Guildford Borough Council in October 2017.
The proposed development has been designed to ensure that a high quality development, which reflects the characteristics of built form and spaces within Worplesdon, is created. Design considerations, which are often an after-thought in the development process, have been considered from the outset. The prolonged commercial use of H Carter & Son Scrap Yard made the application site unsightly. The proposals will redevelop the site for a more pleasant use, which incorporates open space, soft landscaping and new tree planting where there was previously none.
The proposals will provide 45 high-quality homes, 22 of which would be affordable housing, to meet local demand. The proposals also benefit from a community facility in the form of accommodation for people with autism. The living environment for future occupiers would be safe and secure, with a good level of surveillance to buildings and open spaces as a result of the design principles adopted.
Councillor's David Elms, Dennis Paul and Keith Witham welcome the regeneration of unsightly brownfield land to provide local housing and new job opportunities for people in the area. Such use of land like this is helping to remove pressure on the precious countryside we all want to preserve across the Ward.
