Action for Worplesdon Parish and the wider Worplesdon area...

Represented by KEITH WITHAM - Surrey County Councillor

The “Worplesdon Division” of Surrey County Council is a large mainly rural area, but also including areas on the fringes of Guildford town. Locations in Worplesdon Division  (in alphabetical  order!) are:

  • Broadacres area. This includes part of Broad Street, Broadacres, Oakfields, part of Park Barn Drive - and a number of roads off of all the above
  • Fairlands. Including the Fairlands Estate, the Liddingtons and Gravetts Lane, Keens Lane, part of Rydes Hill Road  and Chittys Common - and quite a few roads off all those, plus a stretch of the A323 Aldershot Road from the Broad Street / Rydes Hill Road junction to the A323 junction with Frog Grove Lane, Wood Street Village.
  • Jacobs Well
  • Normandy
  • Perry Hill / Worplesdon This includes A324 from Fox Corner, through Perry Hill to near the Cumberland Avenue / Keens Lane junction;  Salt Box Road, Whitmoor Common, part of Cumberland Avenue, Guildford, and several roads off.
  • Pirbright and Fox Corner
  • Wood Street Village

Keith Witham has been pressing for several years for new laws to control Unauthorised Traveller Encampments - to make these a Criminal Offence with criminal penalties, so that the Police can take faster, effective action.

And the sooner the better. Unauthorised Traveller Encampments, the clear up costs, more security for affected sites - just locally - in Jacobs Well, Fairlands, Normandy, Perry Hill, Pirbright and Worplesdon - have cost public funds (all of us) OVER £200,000 !!!

In another move, Surrey County Council and the 11 District and Borough Councils in Surrey, have agreed to set up a Traveller Transit Site, in the east of  the County. This will help alleviate, but not solve, the issues. So the new laws are very much needed.
